- Design scripts/templates for handling threatening situations--be brief; don't personalize the response to the student (i.e. don't make reference to the student's race, gender, ethnicity, etc.)

Peer handbook ideas
We talked a lot about these at the meetings (today and on the 12th); I thought a list here (and in the comments) would be fairly practical - once we felt there were enough ideas, we could compile them into a proper MS Word document. To start, here are a few broad categories:

The CUW Writing Center has a short, 5-statement-each bill of rights for consultants and for students. Approximations:
For consultants - 1. Objectively approaching a variety of tuttees. 2. Encourage independent revision. 3. Let tuttees set agenda. 4. Students are on time, respectful, and prepared. 5. Collaborate.
For students - 1. Judgment-free atmosphere. 2. Make own decisions. 3. Discuss particular writing concerns. 4. Consultants are "prompt, professional, and knowledgeable." 5. Dialogue-friendly atmosphere.
